About the Nest Climate Campus

The Nest Climate Campus, the official event partner of Climate Week NYC, is a climate action platform mobilizing climate-committed doers and thinkers from leading companies, NGOs, government, academia, and the community at large.

Our mission is to enhance the future viability of our planet by convening these thought leaders and agents of change to share the most effective sustainability practices and to highlight actionable solutions, programs, and policies supporting the climate crisis – resulting in greater knowledge, connections, and collaborations to advance climate action.

About ClimaTwin®

ClimaTwin® is a leading climate risk intelligence solution for infrastructure assets and the built environment.

We empower infrastructure stakeholders to mitigate climate risks and assess adaptation actions across the total asset lifecycle. By connecting complex climate models and infrastructure digital twins, our solution enables engineers, owner-operators, and governments to aggregate, visualize, and analyze disparate datasets, revealing site-specific insights at a hyper-local scale. Benefits include 5-10x near-term returns and lifetime cost-avoidance by mitigating risks to systems, services, and societies.

Climate Conversations on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

The National Academy of Sciences presents the virtual event “Climate Conversations: Artificial Intelligence,” a discussion about leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and technologies to advance climate solutions. During the webinar, panelists Priya Donti (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Amy McGovern (University of Oklahoma) discuss the challenges and opportunities related to the current and future role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in climate solutions. From research and development over the past several decades, modeling complex climate systems is advancing high-performance computing. With the climate crisis upon us, understanding complex climate systems and leveraging big data for decision-making is now mission-critical. Accordingly, AI and ML are transforming computational problems and revealing new solutions to address the challenges of climate change.

About the Speakers

Priya Donti is an incoming Assistant Professor in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the co-founder and Executive Director of Climate Change AI (CCAI), a global nonprofit initiative to catalyze impactful work at the intersection of climate change and machine learning. Her research focuses on machine learning for forecasting, optimization, and control in high-renewable power grids.

Amy McGovern is a professor in the School of Computer Science and in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. Dr McGovern is also the director of the NSF AI Institute for Research on Trustworthy AI in Weather, Climate, and Coastal Oceanography. Her research focuses on developing and applying trustworthy AI and machine learning methods primarily for severe weather phenomena.

About the Series on Climate Conversations: Pathways to Action

Climate Conversations: Pathways to Action is a monthly webinar series from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that aims to convene high-level, cross-cutting, nonpartisan conversations about issues relevant to policy action on climate change.
